Troy Kitchen

Oops haven't reviewed this spot yet that I frequently go to! So my fave is the Jamaican spot Island hut with the fish Escovitch and plantains! It has a nice spice and vinegary bite to eat and today the plantains were born they were ripe and cooked down to have a slight crisp from the natural sugar. During the week I try to eat healthier so fresh sheets has quinoa cabbage and salmon with great seasoning. And the server David is nice who works there. Also they have a small biodegradable paper container which I appreciate. I wish all the spots had this biodegradable paper container like they have at the co-op, I would actually probably eat a toy kitchen more if they had the biodegradable utensils and containers. The Mexican spot is also good with their chicken tacos however they're soft creamy of a guacamole is kind of weird LOL. Just met the owner Corey and hes cool. Also, got a nice glass of Spanish Cab for four bucks-good deal and some nice photo ops as a background was pretty cool to. Anyways, hes going open up in Albany kitchen style spot too, so looking forward to checking that spot out and hope they have some flavourful good eats like at Troy but biodegradable containers and utensils.

The ultimate food hall!! They have a variety of foods. Everything is beyond great. Can we say curry chicken, a halal mix plate. These places are a must try. The food is authentic, affordable, and out of this world. The bar has a large variety of drinks, every drink is cheap and comes as a double. Bartenders are friendly and very prompt. The lounge is full of positive vibes. Always promotes love and diversity. They constantly make changes in which creates a great atmosphere.

Awesome concept that gives the little guys a fighting chance! My cousin told me Troy Kitchen serves as sort of an experimental place for smaller food vendors to test out their goods and raise the revenue to afford an established brick and mortar residence. She said there's been a couple of success stories since it opened. I think every city and big town should consider a place like this, and maybe many cities do. We only grabbed bites to eat on the food side, but they do have a bar/lounge side. It's great because it's part cafeteria, part social experiment and part hangout. And what's more unifying than food? On my trip, I ordered from Chopped Cheezus, and you can read my review on their page for that. In short, it was great!

Troy Kitchen is such a dope spot! I came in town to visit from NYC and was surprised to see such an elegant and modern bar/lounge in Troy. It's not often you come across a gem like this in the Albany/Troy area. I initially came to take advantage of their $4 rose all day from 12-4 every Saturday. This was a great tactic to lure me in! Who can beat $4 booze?! I enjoyed my rose...they had many options like rose champagne, frozen rose, rose vodka shots, and a wine rose. We received wonderful service from our bartender as well. There is a beautiful seating lounge area, and they had a DJ that played some great music. I appreciated this because me and my friend were able to catch up and relax without the music being overly loud. On the other side of the lounge they have a cafeteria style eating area with different food vendors. I was a little disappointed that 3 of the vendors were either closed, or not open yet... But the food was great! Overall, I was very happy with my experience here. I wish I was able to come on a night where they have an event taking place -- next time!

QUALITY Troy Kitchen should be the type of spot that all cities should take a page of the play book out of. This is due to the face that I feel it could be a huge success anywhere one would go. The quality surely is driven by the demand and patronage of each of the five or six places that fancy themselves within the Kitchen. Yes, this is merely a "Food Hall" or "Food Court", however the quality is top-notch in comparison to many typical you might find in a large enclosed mall. Back home in Miami for myself, we are starting to see more "Food Hall" type of places, however the quality does not seem to compare to what Troy Kitchen is offering up. QUANTITY The quantity is just fine as far what I had ordered at my first and only visit. I was very impressed though with the Baklava desert as it was huge compared to other places my wife and I had tried in our own home town. For myself, the pita wrap was indeed filled well with marinated chicken, however the other items I saw around seemed as though they could have been a bit more on the quantitative end. VALUE I was very impressed with the value of my pita and the desert we tried. My wife had a type of cheesy hamburger hotdog type of thing and it surely looked sizeable and a great value. She also said he taste was great so that is a plus. We did not purchase any drinks on this visit, however the options did seem to be on par or less than bar prices I would expect in and around my hometown area. AMBIANCE Though we did go on a Friday night, I would suppose downtown Troy has its high and low peak times. It was close to ten at night and the crowd was minimal. This was not a bad thing for us as we had zero lines to worry about and finding a place to sit was a breeze. The venue is communal style bench seating, and this happens after you first walk in, walk up to your selected food hall area, place your order and it and enjoy. I did enjoy the lights all strung up as well as the connected disco bar just around the corridor. CROWD As noted above, the crowd was rather subdued I would suppose due to time of the year or day. We did not see many people and so it is hard to really pinpoint how the crowd is. The age range seemed to be twenties and thirties, though families and older folks would of course be more than welcomed. SERVICE Since the crowd was subdued, the service was extremely fast and helpful. I received my pita sandwich almost as fast as I was able to sit down and wash my hands. Likewise, my wife, whom went to a different window to order, also had her food served very quickly. These folks are ready for whatever comes though; a huge plus I am sure when the crowds are vast. PARKING As with most areas in downtown Troy, parking is rather straight forward and simple on the streets or at worst case scenario, in the parking garage. There is plenty though, for free, just on the streets, if one can parallel park, you should be fine. I had to brush up on my parallel skills, which we then learned could use some attention. EXTRA The extra for Troy Kitchen is merely the fact that enough places care to do something totally different and hip and alive. I do wish more areas in Miami would follow suit and though I am certain this trend will catch on, it appears to find enough chefs or restaurants or food trucks that want to operate in this style, may be the biggest challenge. Again, kudos to Troy and its great folks for making this happen. Until next time, SYOY!
